Ryan Narrowly Misses Out At Election

A Year 8 student had the experience of his lifetime after putting himself up for election as a Young Member of Parliament.

Ryan White stood as KSA candidate for the Kettering seat after deciding he wanted to make a difference for young people his age.

The student, who is also a young carer, campaigned on the issues of safety for young people and also to increase awareness of young carers, and after some good electioneering he managed to secure about 500 votes.

Unfortunately this was not enough to win Ryan the seat, but he is determined to fight the election again when the position comes around in two years time.

He was the youngest of the 9 candidates who battled it out at the Guildhall in Northampton on Wednesday, March 17.

Ryan said: "I wanted to stand as it would be nice to make a difference to the lives of all the young people in Kettering.

"It was a great experience and I want to thank all those who voted for me."

Four young members of parliament for Northamptonshire were selected at the event, which was organised by Connexions.
Their role will be to voice the views of young people, and also meet with their local MP to give them feedback on the issues for students and teenagers.
