Star Athlete Ranked Number 12 in the UK for High Jump

High jumper Gabrial Smith reached 12th position in the UK for his age group after achieving a personal best.

Gabe, who is a member of Kettering Harriers, was competing in Kettering when he cleared 1m 52, setting a new club record and achieving 12th position in the country for someone of his age.

He said: "To be ranked number 1, I have to beat 1m 72 - I think I could do it because this year, I'm jumping 19cm higher than I was last year."

This month, his success continued with a win at the County Athletics Championship at Corby taking first place in the high jump.

The Year 8 student is also a runner and trains twice a week with the Harriers. His next event is this weekend at the Sandra Luke Memorial 5 Star & 10 Step Competition in Oxford, where athletes must take part in either three or five events depending on their age.
