Jake in Pole Position for Karting Championship

A racing fanatic will face drivers from across Europe when he takes part in an international karting competition this month.

Jake Severs has been racing karts for about three years and spent the summer training for the Rye House London Cup challenge which runs from September 27th to 30th.

Jake has been a member of the Zip Kart All Stars team for a year after being picked during a tuition day. He also races about once a month at the Whilton Mill track near Daventry and recently came third in a similar event to the London race, the Brazilian Cup.

Jake, who is in Year 7, said: "My granddad, dad and mum were all into racing and on my eighth birthday, they gave me my own kart. I've always loved speed and going fast so it's a real adrenalin rush for me. It's great when you get people coming up to you afterwards and saying 'well done' and seeing reports of the race on the internet."

Jake has spent time working on his fitness by going cycling on a regular basis and he has also been practising techniques to aid his concentration.

"Like my manager says, you have to be committed to it or else there's no point," he said.
