Gymnast Awarded Two Medals in Regional Competition

Liberty Luck impressed judges with her floor and vault skills to pick up two medals at a regional gymnastics competition.

The Year 8 student, who belongs to Corby Gymnastics Academy, was part of a team which competed against girls from other counties at the level 4 floor and vault competition organised by the East Midlands Gymnastics Association.

Liberty was awarded silver in the 14 years+ category and also picked up a bronze medal after the Northamptonshire team was awarded third place overall.

She achieved the highest mark for her floor routine, which included lots of tumbles and back flips, and was only one point behind the winner in her category.

Liberty said: "It was quite a hard competition because I have to compete in the 14 years+ category when I'm only 13, so I was up against 15 and 16-year-olds. The standard was quite high.

"I have been doing gymnastics since I was a toddler and now I train twice a week. You learn so many new things all the time. I'm quite competitive and gymnastics is quite competitive so I enjoy that side of it too."

Her achievement in Leicester this weekend follows another success the week before at a competition in Spalding, where she was awarded third place for her bar work.
