Open Evening Attracts More Than 1,000 Visitors

The recent open evening for Year 5 and 6 families attracted more than 1,000 parents and children who were keen to learn more about life at KSA.

Each department put on interactive taster sessions, including dissection in science, badge and bookmark-making in design and a number of sports sessions. Children had the opportunity to try a number of musical instruments as well as experimenting in the recording studio. Also attracting a lot of interest was the drama department's green screen, where children were transported to the moon or under water.

During his talk to families, Principal Paul Davies told them: "I'm thrilled to be able to tell you what we can offer. We're about high, ambitious targets. We're about giving young people the best opportunities so they make the very best of their lives. We judge ourselves on what young people take away with them each and every day. I want young people to be proud to come to KSA and we expect them to want the best for themselves. We pride ourselves on having good old fashioned values that are good for everyone and right for the 21st century."

Mr Davies also outlined the Academy's two-year plan to take the Academy forward. He added: "We are looking to the future. We know that when young people leave us, they will have to compete with the rest of Britain and beyond, and that they'll be applying for jobs that haven't even been invented yet.

"My pledge to you is that lessons will be engaging, progressive and personalised to your child's needs. We are already looking at a curriculum that will be fit for the next 10 years of employment."

One parent who was impressed was Mark Williams, who said: "What I did like was that the head teacher wasn't just talking about what the school has now - he spoke about his vision for the future."

Mr Williams' daughter Megan, who has visited KSA in recent weeks with her primary school to take part in drama workshops, said: "I absolutely love this school!"
