Year 11 Student at Kettering Science Academy was given the honour of guarding the former Lord Lieutenant of the county’s jewellery at her memorial service in Northampton.
On Thursday, 22^nd January Myles Tew was requested to attend the memorial service of Lady Juliet Townsend at All Saints Church, Northampton.
Lady Townsend was the Lord Lieutenant for the county from 1998 until she retired in June 2014 and she died in November.
Myles is currently a cadet to the Lord Lieutenant of Northamptonshire and as part of his role for the year he is summoned to be present at Royal Visits to the county and to be at  the Lord Lieutenant’s side at other official engagements.
Myles was asked to be present at the public church service and to take charge of Lady Townsend’s jewels, which had been given to her by the Queen.
Speaking after the event, Myles said: “It was obviously a sad occasion, but it was a great honour for me to be asked to carry in her jewels as part of the parade of dignitary into the church. I stayed by the side of the current Lord Lieutenant as part of my role and laid the cushion with the jewels down at the front of the church. I then stood guard throughout the service. I met with Lady Townsend’s family and I felt proud to be part of the occasion that was an emotional event but also a celebration of her life.”
Myles was awarded the honour of the Cadet to the Lord Lieutenant  last October, as the chosen Sea Cadet for the county role.  
Myles added: “I am enjoying the role and honour of being offered the opportunities it has provided me with.  It is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am sad to be nearly halfway through by time of service.”
