Reading Competition

A collection of books were won by one of our Year 7 Students part of the Read for My School national reading competition.
Mary Precious Ike won 10 books after her name was picked out as part of a prize draw run alongside the reading scheme that Kettering Science Academy students in Years 5, 6 and 7 have been taking part in since January.
Students in both phases of Kettering Science Academy have been encouraged to read as many online books as possible for the  reading competition.
The competition has been run throughout the Spring Term and students have read more than 800 books in total.
The books have been freely accessible online during the two months of the competition and students have had a variety of titles to choose from.
Head Librarian at Kettering Science Academy, Mrs Heidi Economou said: “The competition aim was to encourage the reading of a variety of books and to introduce the students to new genres of books, some of which they might not have chosen to read previously. It is also provided an opportunity for students to expand their reading and to voice and share their opinions on the books they have been reading. New for this year was the availability of books for students on iPads, Kindles and most tablets.”
Each week Students’ names were entered into prize draw for individual prizes and KSA Year 7 Student, Mary Precious Ike was lucky enough to be a winner for her reading efforts.
During this spring term Mary has read a total of 76 books both from the online selection through the Read for My School competition and also of her own choosing.
