All Set For Vertical Tutoring

Students from across all year groups have been getting to know each other as they prepare for the introduction of Vertical Tutoring in September.

As of next term, there will be five Houses made up of students from Years 7 to 11. Each tutor group will have four or five students from each year, with two Learning Mentors leading each group.

The Academy organised a fun day of activities today (Wednesday, July 21st) in order for students to get to know their new House and tutor group.

They took part in a photo scavenger hunt where they were challenged to capture certain images, such as they funniest or smallest thing they could find.

They also worked in their new groups to make a giant fortune teller, which is normally a handheld bit of paper.

Each House had to vote on which charity they will be supporting over the coming year and they also had to decide on their House colour and logo.

Sixth Form students will be attached to form in a House and will support the Learning Mentors by delivering activities and helping the Heads of House organise and manage events.

Year 12 student Emma Pinson said: "I think it will help give us more experience because we'll be taking on mentoring or leadership roles."

There will be five Heads of House - Mr Brown, Miss Fitzgerald, Mrs Allen, Mrs Dodd and Mrs Reid.

All lessons will continue to be taught in year group classes, with a 30-minute tutor period each day.
