Student Support Officers

The student support officers at the Secondary Phase want students and parents to know they are available to assist them with any concerns or issues they might have.
The team of two officers, Miss Nicola Lacy and Miss Laurie Herring are based at the Academy and are on hand to answer and deal with queries.
They also offer whatever support is needed by students and parents and have recently been answering queries raised by people in the community.
They help parents out with everything from uniform queries to behaviour concerns, no issue is too big or too small for them to deal with.
Miss Lacy was the first support officer for KSA, who started in her role in October, after being a teaching assistant at KSA for a year, but she comes with experience of previously being a behaviour officer at a school in York.
Miss Herring then joined Miss Lacy at the Academy at the beginning of June after leaving her role as Attendance Officer at Latimer Arts College.
She said: “I am really enjoying my new role. It is an exciting new challenge and on a daily basis we do not know what to expect. I have settled in well and I feel like I have been at the school for years.

Miss Lacy said: “We would like students and parents to remember to contact us about any concerns or issues regarding the Academy and we are their first port of call to get things dealt with as soon as possible.
“In school we are not always in our office, but can be found around the Academy and we will see students as soon as we can and help in any way we can.”
She added: “Lately we have also been dealing with community issues that members of the public in the area have brought to our attention to do with students at the school and we are happy to act and resolve matters as quickly as we can.”
She added: “We can offer that extra support that is sometimes needed in certain delicate situations and we act with both the students’ and parents’ best interests at heart.”
The next development to the team will be a third member and then the officers will be delegated year groups to be in charge of and will then be found more in the faculty wings with their specific year groups.
