A mathematics teacher at the Academy spent her half term week in Peru ahead of a students’ challenge trip to the country next summer.
Miss Anna Keen was asked to join other trip leaders from other schools to visit Peru by trip organisers Camps International allowing them to view community projects that the students will be working on and to experience first-hand the places they will be visiting and staying in.
Miss Keen now plans to hold a presentation for students to show them photographs she has taken of the various trip locations and project work and to share her experiences.
Miss Keen added: “It was an amazing experience. I can now prepare the students going next summer as well as advise them more on what they can expect and what essentials they need to pack for the trip.It will help them to prepare better for the challenges of the trip too, including the possibility of suffering from altitude sickness, what their accommodation is going to be like and what a typical day will consist of.  I also want them to know what a trip of a lifetime they are going on and how rewarding it will be.”
Trip organisers, Camps International provide students with the opportunities to help small communities in various countries with the aim of helping them become more self - sufficient by working on building houses, toilets, greenhouses and work on projects within schools.
Miss Keen added: “Everyone you help is so grateful and appreciative of the aid provided. I hope also as a school we can donate some learning resources to benefit the children in the communities.”
The group of 8 students going on the Peru trip next year are busy fundraising for the trip and most recently held a Year 7 & 8 Halloween disco, which raised another £230 collective to go towards their individual targets of £4,000.

The students will be holding a cake stall every Friday after school during this term and the group are also planning to hold a Year 7 Christmas prom before the end of term to raise more funds.
