Principal's Update 22nd June 2025
Dear all
As we head into the final few weeks of term, it’s been another packed week of learning, opportunity and celebration here at KSA.
Once again, we’ve seen our children show that success isn’t just about exam results - it’s also about curiosity, kindness, courage, and confidence too.
๐งช Big Bang Science Fair – Curiosity and Confidence in Action
On Tuesday, 76 of our Year 7 and 8 children travelled to Birmingham for the Big Bang Science Fair - and what a day it was. From explosive gas reactions to liquid nitrogen experiments, our children had the chance to explore science in all its messy, magical glory.
They predicted, experimented, asked brilliant questions and represented the school superbly. There was also the chance to speak with employers and explore future careers in STEM which is exactly the kind of real-world exposure that brings our curriculum to life.
๐งฌ Olympiad Recognition – Well Done Biologists
More success this week, this time in the Intermediate Biology Olympiad:
- ๐ฅ Silver Award – Eddie Brett
- ๐ Highly Commended – Kavini and Weronika
This is a tough national competition that requires deep subject knowledge, resilience, and independent thought. These children have shown real strength and ambition in stepping up to the challenge and this is a fantastic achievement.
๐โ๏ธ Athletics Champions – Strength and Determination on Show
Well done to Tom Jerrin (discus) and Steven Olympio (triple jump), who represented North Northamptonshire at the County Athletics Championships last weekend. They performed with real commitment and focus, and it’s another reminder that success comes in many forms, academic, creative, sporting and beyond.
๐ฃ๏ธ Community Challenge – Making Their Voices Heard
Our Year 9 team presented their anti-vaping campaign at the Police HQ in Wootton this week as part of the Community Challenge semi-finals. Although they didn’t make it through to the final, their preparation, teamwork and public speaking were exceptional.
In a world where young people are often talked about rather than listened to, it was powerful to see them using their voices with such maturity and purpose.
๐๏ธ Roman Day Helpers – Character in Action
A huge thank you to our Year 12 children who volunteered at Compass Primary to help bring Roman Day to life for their Year 3 children. They modelled patience, empathy and leadership and showed how learning isn’t just about currency, but character too. The Compass staff couldn’t praise them highly enough.
โ๏ธ Year 10 Trial Exams – A Fantastic Start
Our Year 10s have made a really impressive start to their trial exams. Attendance has been strong and, just as importantly, they’ve approached each paper with real maturity and focus. Their conduct in the exam hall has been excellent: calm, respectful, and purposeful.
We often talk about knowledge, strength, and ambition at KSA, and our Year 10s have embodied all three this week. We’re looking forward to seeing this continue next week.
๐ Goodbye, Year 11 – A Milestone Moment
On Monday, we officially said farewell to our Year 11 children with a leavers’ assembly, goodbye gifts, cupcakes, shirt-signing and, of course, a visit from the ice cream van.
This cohort have been through more disruption than most. They missed out on SATs, didn’t have a normal transition to secondary, and have had to navigate key moments of their education under the shadow of Covid. Despite all that, they’ve grown into confident, thoughtful young people who’ve shown real grit and determination throughout their time with us.
We’re incredibly proud of everything they’ve achieved - not just in their exams, but in the way they’ve shaped and contributed to school life. They’ve left their mark, and we wish them every success for the future.
๐ Sixth Form Induction Days
On Monday and Tuesday we welcome our new Sixth Form cohort for their induction. It’s a chance to meet the team, explore the curriculum, and start to feel part of the KSA post-16 community.
We can’t wait to see how they rise to the challenge and continue to grow both academically and personally in the years ahead.
๐ Help Shape Local SEND Support
North Northants SEND IASS (Information, Advice and Support Service) is launching a new website to better support young people with SEND and their families — and they want your input.
If you’re a parent-carer, you can take part in one of their feedback sessions:
- ๐๏ธ Tuesday 8 July, 9:45–11:30am, Municipal Offices, Kettering
- ๐๏ธ Wednesday 9 July, 9:45–11:30am, East Northants House, Thrapston
This is a great opportunity to make sure the site works for the families who need it most.

๐ Celebrating Success – In and Out of School
We know that so many of our children are doing amazing things outside of school too and it’s always a joy when families share those moments with us. Whether it’s a sporting triumph, a creative achievement, volunteering, performing, or anything else that makes your child shine, we love hearing about it.
We do our best to keep up, but we know we have a lot of very talented young people to celebrate! So if there’s something you’d like us to shout about more widely, please do get in touch as we’d be delighted to share those stories with our wider KSA community.
Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs Giovanelli
