Lauson Needs Your Vote

Lauson Kenyon has been nominated for a national award from the British Judo Association – but he needs votes to be in with a chance of winning.

Lauson is a table official (TOC), which means he is in charge of the score board during competitions. He works closely with the referees and is responsible for updating the board during what can be very fast-paced action. Table officials have to sit a test before they can work at events and are either invited to competitions or can volunteer their services.

Lauson, who is a member of Kettering Premier Judo Club, is one of four young people to be put forward for the TOC of the Year award, with his nomination reading:

"Lauson is a very able judo TOC and has a great confidence in his ability which he has shown since day one. Lauson went on to officiate at the A Band British Championships hosted by Nottinghamshire Judo in October 2011. He received glowing praise from all the officials he worked with on the day and really showed himself to be a high quality official. I believe that Lauson was the youngest ever person to officiate at a British Championships and he very much proved that age and ability have no correlation. Thank you for all your efforts Lauson."

Lauson said: "I have been part of the judo club in Kettering since I was about 7 and I started officiating when I was 11. I enjoy seeing what's going on and seeing judo from a different perspective. You have to really focus on the referee and concentrate on his hand gestures."
