Yesterday students and staff at Kettering Science Academy celebrated World Book day by hosting a variety of activities.
Key Stage 3 took part in ‘Share a Story’ in an effort to encourage reading for pleasure. In each of their lessons, teachers read a section of a book to their students so that by the end of the day students had the chance to listen to a complete story.
Head Librarian Mrs Heidi Economou said ‘World Book Day this year has been busy, but feedback from Students and Staff about this year’s activities has been really positive.
‘Students seemed to really enjoy this year’s Patrick Ness stories with staff commenting on how well the students listened and reacted to being read to.’
During the day students received a book token and also took part in a tutor time quiz and ’Where’s Wally competition. Students had to find 5 Wallys hidden in various places around the school. Lots of the students took part and the winners are:
-Billy C
-Ellie O
-Makalya T
Mrs Economou said ‘World Book Day gives all students the chance to take part in quizzes, competitions and activities they may not usually do unless they are regular visitors to the library.
‘A huge amount of students took part in our Where’s Wally school search. As the ‘Where’s Wally’ stories are more than 30 years old it shows how a good concept that captures the imagination can stand the test of time.
‘It has been lovely to see and hear so many members of the Academy talking about authors and books.’
