Year 4 students from Compass Primary Academy visited Kettering Science Academy on Tuesday to take part in a variety of electricity-based activities as part of British Science Week.

The students were put into groups and rotated round the science lab trying out different themed activities. They made small circuits, found out which materials conduct electricity and even created their own quiz cards that lit a bulb up if they got the answer correct. To end the session the children gathered to watch the Van der Graaff experiment. They watched the electrical energy collected by the generator make a piece of hair stand up and move small objects.

Science teacher, Louise Oliver said ‘We have taken part in the national event for years. It is a great way to inspire the students and rekindle their enthusiasm for the subject. They love watching and getting involved in all the experiments.

‘At primary school the children have limited equipment and so I wanted to give them a real taster of some of the exciting science experiments we do at secondary school.’
