Year 7 students are currently learning about flooding as part of the geography curriculum. Yesterday the students were lucky enough to receive a talk and demonstration from the Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The presentation gave students an insight into how dangerous floodwaters can be with risks such as water contamination, open drains and fast flooding. The Firefighters explained the process they go through on a job and how they deal with helping people and animals.
After the talk, the students had the opportunity to go outside and watch a demonstration of the equipment the Kettering Fire Department use on a daily basis. Wellingborough Water Rescue Unit brought the water boat used during flood rescues and showed students the clothing they wear.
Geography teacher Natasha Franklin said ‘This was a fantastic opportunity to bring to life the flood topic the student have been studying. They were fantastic and a credit to the school. We all thought it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience!’
