Year 9 student Isabel, who attended the trip, has wrote an article about it:
One of my favourite characters was Simba, the way they used different actors to show him growing up was very clever and the makeup and costume was very detailed and looked stunning. I also really liked the characters Timone and Pumba because they were funny and the way the actors wore the costumes to make the animals seem alive was incredible, using their legs as the animals’ front legs and using their arms to move the other parts of the characters body.
A favourite part of mine was at the very beginning when all the animals were walking onto the stage. The singing, music, bright lights, beautiful colours and the dancing made all of the animals really come to life and made everything feel really magical. Another of my favourite parts was when Simba was looking onto the water and he saw the reflection of his dad. All the pieces that made up the face of Mufasa were slowly moving onto the back of the stage looking like stars until the light changed and you could see the face of Mufasa. It was extremely magical and incredible.
The costumes were incredible detailed and beautiful. When all the birds were flying in the audience the costumes of the people matched the bird matched the colour of the bird that they were flying.
The set was stunning and really helped tell the story. The orchestra and the characters that sang, plus the drummers were amazing and helped tell the story of the lion king.
If I could use three words to describe this performance would be magical, excellent and fantastical.
