Families, staff and governors joined together to celebrate the many achievements of our students at our annual awards ceremony.

Families, staff and governors joined together to celebrate the many achievements of our students at our annual awards ceremony.

Guests were welcomed by Associate Principal Mr Tony Segalini and Brooke Weston Trust CEO Dr Andrew Campbell, who introduced inspirational guest speaker Mr Haseeb Ahmad. Despite going completely blind due to a degenerative eye disease, Haseeb joined the GB Para triathlon squad at 38 years old, medalling at both national and international competitions and he broke the World Blind Ironman record on 2nd October 2016.

Mr Segalini said: Haseeb is a true inspiration. He has shown such great determination throughout his personal journey and is a great example of our Academy motto ‘being the best you can be’.

Associate Principal Mr Segalini hosted the evening and a variety of awards were presented to outstanding students in the categories of Achievement and Progress for Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 and Post-16.  Other categories included Attendance, Community, Leadership, Excellence, Science, Charity and Safeguarding. Students who have recently completed their Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze expedition were presented with their certificates and badges and the new Governors' Recognition award went to the student librarians for their commitment to supporting the library.

Throughout the evening there was a variety of performances from some of our young student musicians.

Mr Segalini said: ‘It is so lovely to be able to have an evening where we bring everyone together to celebrate all the fantastic achievements of our students and to hear from Haseeb who is such an inspiration and reminds us to never give up on our dreams.

A huge congratulation to all the students who received awards.’
