Make the Most of Connexions Advisors
Alan Sheffield and Lucy Holmes (pictured with student Aaron Lewer), who work for the young people's advisory service, can be found in the library on Tuesdays and Thursdays, normally all day.
They are there for all year groups but specifically for year 11s and also Sixth Formers who may need a little extra help before making any decisions.
Alan and Lucy make students aware of all the options and courses available to them as well as assisting with applications and discussing career ideas.
They arrange for students who are still struggling to make a decision to have a more in-depth careers interview with a specialist careers advisor.
Alan said they are now seeing fewer students leaving school at 16. He said: "We provide independent and impartial advice. We're not here to tell young people what to do or to make those decisions for them: we're here to make sure they're aware of their choices and to reinforce what's already being delivered in school."
Students with appointments with the Connexions advisors are reminded to check the screens around school the week before for details of their meeting.
