Real-Life Case Study for Business Students

Year 10 students who have been looking at ways to develop a hotel’s business paid a visit to Kettering Park Hotel to gain an insight into the decision-making process.

The business and communications students took the trip to gather information for their controlled assessment in which they look at how to expand a hotel's offer, either through introducing wedding packages, opening a spa, or hosting business conferences.

Students met the personnel manager, the spa manager and the conference sales manager and quizzed them on a range of items, from the cost of gym equipment and spa membership to the hotel's unique selling point -such as being the only place in Northamptonshire where couples can have an outdoor wedding ceremony.

Jason Mitchell-Bunce, Head of Ethics, Humanities and Business, commended the students, saying: "Their questioning was on par with the best from any group we have taken in the past, and should have provided them with a lot of the evidence they need for their controlled assessment."

Student Megan Marshall said: "It was really good to go on a trip that is directly useful for what we are studying."
