Sixth Formers Win Rotary Technology Tournament

A group of sixth formers impressed judges at the annual Nene Valley Rotary Technology Tournament, picking up first prize in their category.

KSA took three teams of gifted and talented students along to the event at Weston Favell Academy, where they had to build a weight-powered vehicle using their design and engineering skills.

With around 30 teams taking part, the Academy was represented by a Year 8 girls' team, a Year 9 boys' team and a sixth form team.

The students spent the day coming up with a design proposal for a vehicle that could be no higher than 400mm and had to be able to travel up a ramp.

The Year 12 team, made up of Ranveer Sahota, Sunatthida Phatrio, Thirusan Thirugnanasambanthar and Tesvin John, was awarded first place in the advanced category and received a trophy.

DT teacher Nick Guy said: "They won because of the quality of their design ideas and drawings, and the way they were presented. They did very well."
