A Group of chemistry students from KSA took part in a Chemistry Activities Day which also provided them with an insight into university life.
The students from Years 11, 12 and 13 were taken to the university of Leicester for a day of chemistry demonstrations, lectures, and experiments.

Firstly they took part in an undergraduate experiment on esterification, which is usually carried out by first year university students, and then after a lunch break the group were invited to watch a visual chemistry demonstration looking at modern chemistry.

KSA Science Teacher, Kalpana Patel, who accompanied the students on the trip, said: “We had a fantastic day and the students learnt a lot from the visit and it gave them a real  insight into university level studies of Chemistry.
“All the students also worked well together on all the experiments and assignments set them during the activity day.”
Following the science demonstration the students then went to a lecture on Pharmaceutical Chemistry. Afterwards they were asked to work in groups and create a new drug and think of  ideas and ways to market it.
The day finished with a multiple choice quiz using buzzers.

The students that attended were  Year 13 student, Toby Watts , Year 12 students, Abhilasha Kapur, Joanna Steczynska, Lorna Milne, Mason Hoath, Keiran Tapp, Akhil Varghese Shibu, Santino Provenzano, and Year 11 students, Dylan Birk and Connor Beadsworth.
