Offers have now have gone out to the potential students for the Kettering Town Football Club and KSA’s joint Football Academy venture.
A total of 22 students have been given conditional offers to be the first students to be part of the new Football Academy, which is starting up in September and is in addition to the other courses offered to sixth formers at KSA.
Last week the potential students, who will make up the final Football Academy team, met up at KSA for the first time and got to hear about how the Football academy will operate. They also had a chance to discuss more about how their football academy place will work alongside gaining their academic qualifications at KSA.
They were also shown their team’s kit, which is currently minus the team’s logo, player numbers and sponsorship branding.
Business Manager at KSA, Tim Laws said: “It is all starting to take shape and the partnership and links between Kettering Science Academy and Kettering Town Football Club are being forged.
“The coach for the first team of the Football Academy has also been named as Steve Kinniburgh, and we are pleased to welcome him on board at the Academy.
“ We can also announce that the team look set to play in the British Colleges League.”
Mr Laws added: “There is some exciting times ahead for the Academy with the partnership links with Kettering Town Football Club providing the Football Academy students with the use of their Under 21s training facilities and also allowing students to watch more football games in the future. It is exciting times for the school and all the students who will be involved.”
Chairman of the Kettering Town Football Club, Richie Jeune, said: “It is fantastic and really positive for the club to be working with KSA and we are really happy for the students involved. We are very pleased to be associated with the venture,”
“It is the first year and we look forward to continuing in the coming years and inviting new groups of students to be part of the Football Academy and we hope they do well in their league.”
The students who are accepted for the Football Academy will start pre-season training in late August.
The names of the players will not be announced until the places have been secured by the students gaining the required GCSE grades, which are the same grades as required for entry into KSA’s Sixth Form.
