A team of education officials from Italy visited KSA to gain an insight into how ICT can be used in schools and to see an example of best practice.
The visitors included Giovanni Biondi, Head of Department at the Ministry of Education, and delegates from INDIRE, an organisation which focuses on the way that ICT can be used in educational settings both now and into the future.
Year 11 ambassadors Charlie Massie and Dennias Musware showed the group around the Academy, pointing out state-of-the-art facilities such as the recording studio and editing suites. They also explained the swipe card system which allows students to register electronically in the mornings, pay for food, use the printers and take out books from the library.
The Italian representatives met teachers who explained how the Academy's new facilities have aided learning and saw some of the engineering and design equipment in action. They also paid a visit to the primary phase, where Vice Principal Jo Fallowell explained how ICT facilities have been developed according to each year group's needs.
Investment in IT has provided students with a 21st century learning environment. The Academy boasts two Mac suites with professional audio software and semi-professional editing facilities, professional-level photography equipment and wi-fi, which enables students to bring in their own devices for learning. Older students can also make use of the Academy's iPads.
