The Primary Phase at KSA supported the National Anti-Bullying Week last week and supported this year's theme of ‘Stop Bullying for All.”
School communities were being encouraged to look at taking action to stop the bullying of all children and young people – including disabled children and those with special educational needs – children who are significantly more likely to experience bullying in schools and the wider community.
Last week the Primary Phase began with special assemblies for KS1 and KS2 making pupils aware and clarifying what ‘bullying’ actually is.
Assistant Head at the Primary Phase, Mrs Kelly Greaves said: " Throughout the week staff planned a range of age-appropriate activities for each year group,  many of which provoked thoughtful discussions amongst the pupils. Younger pupils focussed on what makes a good friend and how not to let people feel left out.
"Year 1 created their own friendship tree, with their own ‘helping-hands’ messages.  Year 2 thought about the victim’s point of view and depicted feelings on gingerbread men.  Year 3 designed their own anti-bullying wristbands.  Year 6 created their own presentations about the key messages of anti-bullying and gave advice to bullies, victims and bystanders, these were presented at the end of the week."
The first of a series of leaflets were sent home to parents to outline what bullying is (and isn’t) and gave advice if they thought their child was being bullied.
Children showed their support of anti-bulling by all wearing an item of blue at the end of the week.Mrs Greaves added: "The key messages of anti-bullying will continue to be taught and discussed in assemblies and PSHE lessons throughout the year with the forthcoming Cyberbullying focus in February."
