In the Primary Phase the World Book Day week theme this year is Pirates. On World Book Day Thursday, 5th March pupils will be taking part in D.E.A.R – Drop Everything and Read at 9.15am, when all the pupils will be reading at the same time as pupils at the other primary schools within the Brooke Weston Trust.
The school is also awaiting acknowledgement from the Guinness Book of Records to see if they can make into the record books with the collective reading event.
Pupils are being invited to design a National Book Token, enter a general knowledge book quiz at home and to take part in the school’s annual inter-house Spellathon event.
Classes will also be decorating their classroom doors and on Thursday the school will be hosting a book character 'Dress up Day' for pupils.
In the Secondary Phase students in Years 7, 8 and 9 will be sharing short stories being read in lessons in instalments during the day and will also be quizzed on book related knowledge in CAPS time on Thursday. Students in these Year Groups will also be invited to enter an inter-form/inter-year competition to create a book trailer to advertise a book of their choice with book prizes related prizes on offer to the best entries.
There is also an online event ‘Teen Fest ‘ for students to join in with on Wednesday and Thursday, 4th and 5th March.For more information visit: http://www.wbdteenfest.com/
The on-line event will provide some interviews from some popular authors including Holly Smale, Marcus Sedgwick, Malorie Blackman and Derek Landy, along with blogposts, prizes and much more on each night.
Every pupil and student will as well receive a £1 National Book Token to use to buy one of the selected book titles for World Book Day or to use against the value of a full price book.
