Praise has been given to a Year 13 student’s portrait art work which has been completed as part of his A Level coursework.
Sixth Former, Jacob Mawby has produced two portraits as part of his studies and his paintings have gained praise from Head of Art at Kettering Science Academy, Mr Matthew Bean, who is planning to submit the student's work into a national art competition as well as looking to get them exhibited at the Alfred East Gallery in Kettering.
Jacob has painted one portrait of his friend, Sam and the other a self-portrait.

Jacob said: “I am really pleased with both portraits. I spent a day at Cransley Reservoir to get the light and colour contrast right and I took various photographs that I have worked with to create the finish paintings. The portraits took me one week each to complete.”
Jacob has now applied to study for a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Northampton University and then he hopes to go on to do an art degree in the future.
He added: “I enjoy working on portraits and studying various artists’ techniques, but I also enjoy working on product design drawings and landscapes. Portraits do interest me and I am pleased with the shadows and texture I have captured in these pieces.”
Mr Bean said how proud and pleased he was with Jacob’s standard of art work, he added: “The art work is of a high quality, the subjects have been beautifully observed and represented.”
