Former Kettering Science Academy student, Lucy Hatton has won silver in the 60m hurdles in Prague for Team GB at the weekend.
Lucy, 20, who was unsure if she was going to make it to the European Indoor Championships due to missing out on a qualifying time, was invited, competed and came away from the event with personal bests and a silver medal.
Lucy said: “I didn’t take it all in at the weekend, but I am so happy. It was a surreal experience and something different for me to compete at that level with three races in one day and getting PBs after PBs.
“The whole experience was amazing and it was a massive learning curve. There was also amazing support from all the other athletes and also from the BBC commentating team including Denise Lewis and Colin Jackson, on and off the screen, it was a great opportunity.”
Colin Jackson, during a BBC interview, congratulated Lucy’s second place performance and her new PB finishing time of 7.90. He stated how excited he was about her making the transition to outdoor events in the near future and he said he is a ‘huge fan’ of Lucy and third place team GB athlete, Serita Solomon.
Lucy, who has recently changed her coach to Jerzy Maciukiewicz in Loughborough, said she is very excited what the future holds for her and making the move from indoor to outdoor events in May.
She said: “Everything is going well, I am training and exercising differently with my new coach and gaining more confidence for the outdoor stage.”
She said she hopes to compete next on 9th May in Manchester.
