The Student Support Officers’ team for KSA has a new member of staff on board to help and advice students and their families.
Miss Sophia Lawrence started at KSA at the beginning of term and is the latest Student Support Officer for KSA.
Miss Lawrence is a psychology degree graduate, who specialised in looking at helping and understanding the needs of children with special educational needs.
She said: “For my final dissertation, I had the chance to work with parents of children with special educational needs. I found it very interesting and I now have a better understanding of what the parents go through and how they see the school’s involvement in certain situations. My studies have helped me to have an insight into the needs of both students and their familes and this knowledge is definitely helping me in my new role.”
Miss Lawrence is working to support the new Year 7 students at the Academy and she is helping to make their transition into the Secondary Phase a happy one.
She said: “I am here to reassure the students and their parents during the transition period, from primary school into Year 7, as well as deal with any other concerns. I am also a listening ear within the Academy to help with any issues that might arise during a school day.”
Miss Lawrence added: “I really have settled in as a member of staff at the Academy and the three of us work together well and make a great team.”
The student support officers for the Academy are: Sophia Lawrence for Year 7, Laurie Herring for Year 8 & 9 and Nicola Heighton for Year 10 & 11.
