KSA’s new cadets are being put through their paces on a weekly basis as part of the Trust’s Combined Cadet Forces programme.
A group of five Year 10 students have been selected to take part in the inter-trust cadets scheme to represent Kettering Science Academy.
This year’s cadets are: Joshua Bryan, Josh Spence-Wright, Ben Kennedy, Taylor Ballard, Daniel Johnson and Michalina Radacka.
For the last month the cadets have been taking part in training sessions on Fridays at Corby Technology School and have been working on learning drills, marching and various cadet procedures.
In the future, as a part of a platoon, they will join all the other student cadets from the Trust schools on field camping weekends and event days.
Josh Spence-Wright said: “I put myself forward to be cadet as I fancied a new challenge and I am looking forward to the field camping trips.”
Taylor Ballard said: “I decided I wanted to take part in the programme and it will allow me to learn new skills and gain difference experience.”
Michalina Radacka said: “As I’m not from England originally, I wanted to be involved with the programme to help me meet new people . I also thought it would be a nice adventure.”
Joshua Bryan said: “I was previously in the air cadets and I wanted to join this programme to enable me to have something new and different on my CV.”
The Year 10 students are encouraged to carry on with the cadet programme from Year 10 into Year 11 and even into the Sixth Form.
During the course they will have the option to complete a basic course to a corporate level, with additional opportunities to enter into the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme.Throughout the year they will be offered places on a variety of military activities and skills courses, to challenge themselves and increase their knowledge and experience in various fields.
