The first Brooke Weston Trust Year 7 Sports Festival has taken place.
Kettering Science Academy hosted the inaugural event held on Thursday, 8th October which saw hundreds of students from secondary schools across the Trust take part.
The students took part in a variety of sports during the afternoon including badminton, hockey, girls’ and boys’ football, netball and tag rugby.
Director of Sport for the Brooke Weston Trust, Miss Kirstie Smith said: “I was really impressed with the level of participation. It was great to see every single one of our students giving 100%, working together as a team across a variety of sports, displaying excellent sportsmanship and competing with pride for their academies.
She added: “The aim of the Inter-Trust Sports Festivals is to provide a platform to collaborate as a trust, giving pupils more opportunities and have access to competitive sports. The festivals aim to provide a termly opportunity for whole cohorts to develop enthusiasm and interest in PE, physical activity and sport as well as competitive tournament experience for all those involved. As part of the new BWT Sport and PE Strategy we aim to expand on these festivals introducing different strands of participation such as “Give it a Go” and a “Media” Strand to allow the events to become inclusive for all our students.”
Head of PE at KSA, Mr Lee Haywood said: “It was a really good event that was really well supported with some parents coming along to watch. We were also pleased to come second.”
The festival is the first of its kind to be held for the schools, with other year group festivals taking place throughout the year, to encourage more students to be involved in sport and compete against other Trust schools in physical activities.
The overall winners were Corby Business Academy.
The next Festival will take place at Brooke Weston Academy on 8th December for all the Trust Schools’ Year 9 students.
