A group of our students came first in a recent county chemistry competition.
Last  Wednesday, 9th December four students from Years 9-11 took part in the Royal Society of Chemistry's Top of the Bench contest at the University of Northampton.
Our students competed against another nine schools from Northamptonshire and answered a series of questions based on a visit to the university’s tannery and a talk they received about the chemistry of leather.
The students from the Secondary Phase came first in the county heat of the competition and have secured their place in the regional competition to take place at Derby University on 23rd January 2016.
The winning students were: Year 9 Students, Owen Wilson and Bernard Dec, Year 10 Student, Ishan Tailor and Year 11 Student, Ericka Bote.
Science teacher, Miss Sophie George who attended the event with the students, said: “It is fantastic news that the students won the county heat and have made it through to the regional round of the contest. For the next round they will be asked to answer further chemistry questions and also participate in experiments.”
Principal at the Secondary Phase, Mr Paul Davies said: “I’m delighted; this is exactly the type of achievement we should be proud of, especially as a Science Academy. I’m very grateful to the science team and the students for this fantastic result.”
