Homework Review

A new online homework system is being looked at to be introduced as changes start to be made to the way homework is set at the Academy.

A new online homework system is being looked at to be introduced as changes start to be made to the way homework is set at the Academy.
At the end of last term parents of Secondary Phase students were consulted on their views on homework at KSA.
Views and opinions were also sought on a draft policy document and parents were invited to a consultation meeting to discuss the subject further at the end of last term.
The key themes to emerge from the consultation period included:
· That the amount of homework set was inconsistent across the academy.
· Most parents struggled to establish whether homework had been set.
· Some parents perceive that homework is not given the importance that it should have.
· Most parents appreciate that all parties need to be fulfilling their responsibilities in order for homework to become a higher priority.
· Most parents are satisfied with the proposed homework policy.
In response to the parent's views the Academy will be focusing on the delivery of homework during this first half of the term using a clear strategy:
· We are looking into the idea of giving all students a homework exercise book for each subject that they will use solely for homework.
· Staff will set homework in line with the homework policy and ensure that it is marked and the students receive feedback.
The Academy is also looking to secure the services of an online homework tracker called Show My Homework  that will allow students and parents to track what homework has been set and when it is due.
If you would like a preview of this system before we provide you with more details, please visit the following website: www.showmyhomework.co.uk
The Secondary Phase will commence with the phasing in of this practice during this first half of the term and hope that parents will be supportive to ensure that homework is given an increased level of importance for all students.
