Our GCSE geography students have returned from a trip to Norfolk equipped with all the essential information they require to successfully complete their coursework.
More than 80 of our Year 10 students went to Overstrand, Norfolk last week to study the coastline as part of their studies.
The two and a half day residential/ field trip was undertaken by our students as a requirement for completing their geography GCSE course work.
The work carried out during the trip is vital to the students completing the course with the data, they gathered on the trip, being needed for a controlled assessment which is worth 25 per cent of their final grade.
Whilst visiting various costal locations, the students recorded information on varying rates of erosion, as well as questioning residents and tourists about what they think of the sea defences and examining the effectiveness of the sea defences.
Year 10 geography student, Matthew Frost said: “We did manage to gather all the information needed for our coursework. We also did a lot of sketches of our findings to include in our project work along with the opinions we recorded from people we interviewed on the beaches.”
Year 10 student, Kieran Williams said: “It was very beneficial and interesting to be looking at the actual beaches instead of just the information on the screens in the classrooms. It is also good for us to provide our own evidence for our coursework.”
Year 10 Student, Aston Buckby said: “Seeing it for ourselves has provided us with a better understanding of the theory work and it was important to get the information for ourselves, on a first-hand basis.”
Year 10 Student, Aimee Parker added: “It was good to see the difference between coastal sites and ask people for their on the spot opinions.”
The group of students all agreed it was a worthwhile experience for getting the most update information for their project work and it was an interesting visit for bringing their studies to life.
