A group of our students had an enjoyable time on the Academy's annual skiing trip last month.
A total of 30 students from Years 7- 11 went on the six day residential trip to Austria during the February half term week from Friday, 12th February through to Saturday, 20th February.
They benefited from the experience in many ways, not only for building confidence in their skiing abilities but also for building on their self-confidence, teamwork skills and they experienced the culture of a different country.
Trip organiser and PE teacher Liam Feely said: “It was a great week of skiing and everyone had an amazing time. Everyone was being very supportive of each other too and the level of skiing was the best it has been before with the beginners advancing quickly on the trip.”
Mathematics teacher Mr Martin Shepherd said: “A group of skiers even went off across country over a range of the mountains with an instructor and visited a glacier, which was the first time that had been possible. It was a great experience for the students and it was very scenic.”
Mr Feely also explained the group had a great cultural experience at the skiing resort with some of the girls getting to milk cows and a calf was also born whilst they were there.
He added: “As a group all the students had a great time also in the evenings playing table tennis,  table football and had DVD nights. There was also an awards ceremony held on the Friday night. The awards included the Stig and the most improved skier awards”
Mr Shepherd added: “Members of the group also commented on how they met new people on the trip, students from other years who they had never spoken to before and new friendships have been forged.”
