A group of our Year 10 students came second in a recent inter-schools’ mathematics competition.
On Thursday 10th March eight of our students, accompanied by maths teachers Miss Smith and Miss Keen, attended a Maths Feast event run by the Further Maths Support Programme held at Corby Business Academy.
Our students were divided into two teams of four and made up team 10A1 and team 10B1.
Miss Smith said: “The competition consisted of different rounds, including a countdown round and a relay where teams could not speak to each other but passed on their answers to the next person to solve the questions. One round also involved students studying a topic they had never seen before and answering questions based on their help sheet. This topic is currently on the Further Maths A level syllabus.”
She added: “Both teams worked relentlessly through all the rounds. A team from University Technical College, Cambridge was the winning quartet with a total score of 59, but our 10A1 group came a very close second with a total of 58. Our other team 10B1 also did well and managed to beat four of the other teams taking part on the day.”
The students from the 10A1 team were:
Luke Hansen
Aston Buckby
Lydia Shepherd
Keegan Giles
The 10B1 team were:
Pranav Sudeesh
Joshua Creighton
Thomas Leversha
Leon Caudell
