Kettering Science Academy students picked up four awards at the first ever Brooke Weston Trust Sports Awards.
Secondary Phase Students Aston Buckby and Billy Revell and our Primary Phase pupils, Sanjay Ashwin and Mekedis Abdullah all triumphed at the inaugural awards which were held on Friday night, 6th May at the Core Theatre in Corby.
Hundreds of students and parents from the ten BWT schools attended the awards ceremony in which young people from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4 were recognised for their commitment.
KSA Year 10 student Aston Buckby won the Key Stage 4 BWT Participation and Achievement Award for her outstanding involvement with PE lessons and for being an all-round sports person both in and outside of school.She is also excelling at her PE GCSE course.
Year 10 student Billy Revell won the Key Stage 4 BWT Sportsman of the Year Award for his recent national championship win in boxing and for his hopes of representing England in the sport next year as well as for his ongoing participation in sports in general at school.
Year 6 pupil Sajay Ashwin won KS2 BWT Sportsman of the Year Award for being an excellent all round sportsman who has this year been selected to be part of the county squad for badminton as well performing well in a number of sports at school including representing KSA in the KSSP Cross Country event at Wicksteed Park.
Our Year 5 Pupil, Mekedis Abdullah also won the KS2 BWT Sports Leader of the Year award for her role as a Play Leader at the Primary Phase helping and supporting children and lunchtime supervisors to teach and lead games and sporting activities.
Altogether 18 awards were presented by special guests Chair of the Youth Sport Trust Baroness Sue Campbell and former BMX World Champion Mike Mullen.
Head of PE at KSA, Mr Lee Haywood said: “It was an extremely well organised and very professionally run event with both of the guest speakers captivating the students in attendance. We were also pleased for our students that were nominated and won awards at the event. They were more than deserved for their participation and involvement in sports.”
BWT Director of Sport Kirstie Smith said: “It was a great evening and a real celebration of the sport that happens across our Trust of ten schools.
“As a Trust we recognise the importance of sport in young people’s lives and what it does to enhance well being, build confidence and teach team skills.”
During the evening all nominees were invited onto the stage and the audience were told about their sporting achievements.
There were also messages of support and congratulation from the stars from the world of England Rugby and BMXer Mike Mullen demonstrated a trick with Executive Principal John Henrys.
Thomas Clarkson Academy dance troupe Inspire also performed and throughout the evening the BWT Sports Ambassadors assisted with duties, helping students and parents to their seats and providing support to the awards organisation team.
