An insight into historical Roman culture was given to a group of our students last month as they were taken on a trip to Italy.
In June a group of 39 of our students from Years 8, 9 and 10 visited the Bay of Naples for a humanities experience.
The five day trip from 19th June – 24th June saw students touring around some of the most famous Roman historic sites including Pompeii, Herculaneum and the exploration of Mount Vesuvius, the living volcano that destroyed Pompeii.
Vice Principal at KSA, Mr Tony Segalini said: “We toured the superb sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum which gave an excellent insight into the life of a Roman citizen two thousand years ago.
“Everyone climbed the slopes of Vesuvius reaching a height of over 1,000m and it provided us with a fantastic view of both the caldera of the volcano and the Bay of Naples. We got a great tour of the Amalfi coast, a world heritage site and visited the world famous Naples archaeological museum.
“All the students were great ambassadors for the school and got a great insight into Italian culture both ancient and modern, particularly the Pizzas and Ice cream! All together we had a fantastic trip and one which we intend to repeat next year.”
Year 8 student, Harry Thomas said: “I found the whole of the trip very enjoyable. If I had to pick a favourite part I would say visiting the volcano was the best bit for me, it was a very interesting experience. Pompeii was another highlight for me after learning all about it. I am really pleased I went on the trip.”
