I am currently studying Chemistry at Oriel College, University of Oxford.

Advice for Sixth Form students?

In terms of revision for the exams you’ll have to sit, my recommendation (especially for STEM subjects) is to complete as many past exam papers as possible. They’re all easily accessible online along with examiner’s comments and mark schemes, so definitely make the most of these resources.

That said, you should also find a good balance between work and life. It’s a balance that you will need in the years after sixth form, whether you go to university or follow another path. Working hard is important, but it’s easy to overwhelm yourself and burn out quickly if you bury your head in a textbook all day, so make sure you take some time to yourself away from revision.

Luke Heaviside - Class of 2024

Subjects studied as KSA: Maths, Physics, Chemistry

What are you doing now?  APEP PDD: Degree Apprentice at Jaguar Land Rover

Advice for Sixth Form students: Use your time wisely, organise and plan what you want to do and when you want to do it. Always work hard and apply yourself, but make sure to enjoy it and don’t get burnt out!!!

Apprenticeship advice: Get yourself organised, make sure that CVs and cover letters are made ahead of when the position is open. Research the companies that you are applying for to see what they are looking for in an employee and tailor your cover letter to fit.

Jayden Ede - Collis - Class of 2024

Subjects studied at KSA: Chemistry, Physics, Psychology

What are you doing now?: I am currently studying a bachelors degree in chemistry at Nottingham Trent University.

Advice or tips for Sixth Form Students: MAKE PLANS! I cannot stress enough how important it is that you plan what work you will be doing and when to do it during the week. I would suggest making a "revision timetable" where you lay out what your weekly workload looks like. Then, at the beginning of every week, layout what content you cover in those timeframes. This should always begin with content recently covered in class and then content that was covered a while ago. Also, remember to have a laugh, you aren't prisoners and you can still enjoy life.

Kristopher Handley - Class of 2024

Subjects studied at KSA: Maths, Physics, and Chemistry.

What are you doing now? I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Sheffield.

Advice or tips for Sixth Form students:  Make good use of your teachers! They are there to help you and want you to succeed. Pester them for revision resources, past papers (the ones you can't find on physics and maths tutor), and answers to tricky questions. You do not realise the support you have in sixth form until you move on - make use of it whilst you can. I also recommend supporting and asking for help from your subject peers. Chances are if you are struggling with something, others may be too, or they may have found a solution to the problem. The best revision I got was from explaining a topic to someone else - asking for help from a peer will likely help both of you! Also, remember to have a life outside your studies. Taking good care of yourself is far more important than achieving straight A*s! You should aim to feel you have done your best in your given circumstances - that is all that should matter.

Magenta Kenyon - Class of 2024

Subjects Studied at KSA: CTEC Sport and Physical Activity, Law and Psychology

What are you doing now? Sport Science, Coaching and Physical Education at Loughborough University

Advice for sixth form students:

The thing that helped me the most was explaining topics to my friends. We’d go into free classrooms, use the whiteboards and teach each other. It was so much more engaging, fun and beneficial than sitting alone revising in silence. I also think that it’s really important to have a hobby that you do outside of school which can act as an outlet for any stress and anxiety that you have. I personally found that going to the gym or for a swim after school with a friend helped my wellbeing massively. And finally, just remember that the Sixth Form team are always there for a helping hand, whether that be regarding your studies or your overall wellbeing, use them while you can.

Nirvair Bains - Class of 2024

Subjects Studied at KSA : CTEC sport and physical activity, law , psychology and core maths

What are you doing now? Studying human resources and business management at Aston University.

Advice for sixth form students:

ASK! Unfortunately, they are not mind readers, so if you want extra resources, ask and make the most of everything provided for you. Exams will come around very quickly, so it's best to look over your notes regularly and become proactive so you are not cramming revision in the days before. Past papers will become your best friend, and they're the most effective revision for exams. When completing the questions, compare answers with your peers and learn from one another's ideas. One thing I learnt especially was that everyone will learn at their own pace and grades don't define you! As long as you put 110% into all your subjects, that is all you can ask from yourself. Finally, the sixth form can be stressful at times, so look after your wellbeing and ensure to create memories that last a lifetime!
