Principal's Update 27th April 2025

Dear all

Welcome back! We hope you all had a restful Easter break. As ever, this half-term promises to be a busy one, with lots already happening across the Academy.

🎓 Year 7 Parents’ Evening

Last week, we were delighted to welcome so many of our Year 7 families to Parents’ Evening. It was wonderful to see so many of you, and the positive feedback we received about your children’s experiences and progress was truly appreciated. As ever, please remember that communication doesn’t just happen at formal events – if you ever need to get in touch, we’re here to help at any time.

🚓 County Challenge – Year 9

This week, our Year 9 students took part in the County Challenge, working alongside a team from Northants Police. This year’s focus was the dangers of vaping. Students worked in small groups to develop ideas to make vaping less attractive to young people. Four groups made it through to the final stage, and we are excited to announce the winners early next week. The winning team will then go on to compete with other local schools, with the chance to win £2,000 to make their ideas a reality!

🏆 Celebrating Student Success

We’re also thrilled to share some wonderful news about Mariia Filonenko (9AG). Over the Easter break, Mariia competed internationally, becoming the absolute champion of Bulgaria – returning with two cups and five medals! She also competed in a major international tournament in Ankara, Turkey, achieving one first place, two second places, and a third place. This is an incredible achievement and we are so proud of Mariia. Thank you to her family for allowing us to share her success, and a big well done, Mariia!

🎭 Auditions – Christmas Musical Production: The Addams Family

Exciting news from Performing Arts: auditions for our Christmas musical production, The Addams Family, are taking place this week. There are lots of parts available both on and off stage, so whether you love performing, singing, set design or stage management, there’s something for everyone. If you’re interested, then there is a pre-audition meeting in the main hall Monday 28th April, during Lunch with auditions in the main hall Thursday 1st May at 3:10- 4:30 and Friday Lunch.

🧠 Ready, Respectful, Safe – Assembly Focus

This week, I have been visiting assemblies, and I will continue to do so next week, to remind all our young people about the importance of being ready, respectful and safe around the Academy.

We absolutely understand that children sometimes find school challenging, and we will always do everything we can to help and support them. We are proud to offer alternatives and reasonable adjustments where needed, recognising that different students sometimes need different routes to success. However, meeting us halfway means engaging positively with the support that is offered.

It’s not about choosing whether or not to accept help, but about working together to find the best way forward. By doing so, we can ensure that every student feels supported, every classroom is safe, and every young person has the best possible chance to thrive.

Thank you for continuing to reinforce these important messages at home.

🏛️ BWT Strategy Day

This Friday, I will be attending the Brooke Weston Trust Strategy Day at the Weston Centre in London. I will be joining our trustees for the afternoon to deliver a session that asks them to consider what inclusion really means across BWT, and the work we want to do over the next few years to ensure that all children feel seen, safe, and valued in every one of our schools.

It is fantastic that KSA is leading the way in this work. There is, of course, still much more to be done, but we are proud to be helping to shape the future direction of the Trust on such an important issue.

📝 Recruitment Update and Summer Invigilator Vacancies

We are currently holding a number of interviews this week for several roles across the Academy. I will keep you updated, but I am really pleased with the calibre of applicants who are keen to join our community and work with us.

On that note, we are still recruiting exam invigilators for this summer series. These are very flexible opportunities, ideal for family members or friends, or even former BWT students who are home from university over the summer and looking to earn some extra money. ☀️ Warm Weather Update

With warm weather forecast for this week, we will continue to monitor conditions carefully. If needed, we’ll issue guidance via EduLink about sensible adaptations to uniform to ensure students stay comfortable. Please keep an eye on notifications.
