Personal Development and Relationships Sexual Education (RSE)
We aim for our personal development curriculum to support students’ personal, social, health and economic development by enabling them to build their knowledge to help them to make informed choices about the opportunities and challenges life presents.
The students learn about relationships and sex education, health and wellbeing. Through the curriculum we aim to provide students with opportunities to ask questions and explore issues that are real and relevant to them in a safe and managed environment.
Personal development is an integral part of our broad and balanced curriculum supporting spiritual, moral, social and cultural education, equalities and safeguarding.
Our personal development curriculum has been designed to be age appropriate, whilst being sensitive to the needs of our whole school community to ensure the students are provided with an education which supports them now and prepares them for the future.
Students learn about economic and careers education through relevant themes which address the Gadsby Benchmarks.
Our ambition is to enable the students as they progress through the curriculum, to become more critically aware as they work through first-hand experiences to learn about the world we live in. We also want the students to be able to make informed decisions and to become responsible citizens.
The students experience personal development as an age-related spiral curriculum based upon the following themes:
