Successful Challenge Days

Our students were both enthusiastic and fully engaged in the KSA’s Challenge Days held at the Academy last week.

Our students were both enthusiastic and fully engaged in the KSA’s Challenge Days held at the Academy last week.
Students from Years 7 through to 10 were taken off timetabled lessons for Thursday 7th and Friday 8th July and were set a variety of tasks and projects.
All the students had a choice of activity options to take part in and were asked to list their top five preferences for the two days depending on their interests and skills.
The Academy was a hive of activity with students turning their hands to everything from knitting, fabric printing and cooking through to storytelling and slum shelter building.
In the food technology rooms buffet spreads were being produced in a Ready Steady Cook fashion and in textiles department clothing was being made out of recycled material.
There was a project/challenge to suit every student and the challenges gave them the opportunity to demonstrate their various creative skills.
In the PE department students were also recording their mileage of sporting activities to see if they could makke the distance to the Rio Olympic Games and others were entering in engineering challenges including creating a glider, helicopers and wind turbines.
All the events were being reported on in KSA’s press room with a group of students becoming roving reporters to get the latest updates on the challenges and at the end of the two days produced a full-colour magazine promoting the events that took place.
Lead staff member for the challenges and head of Mathematics, Miss Lorraine Taylor said: “It was a fantastic couple days of very different activities within the Academy and we have been so impressed by the achievements of our students. The students have shown a lot of enthusiasm for the Challenge Day tasks and they have been engaged by the projects. All our students definitely rose to the challenges that they were set.”
