Year 7 Transition

Welcome to #TeamKSA

We are delighted to welcome our new Year 7 students and their families to Kettering Science Academy. Starting secondary school is an exciting milestone, and we know it can also come with questions and nerves. This transition page has been created to support both students and parents as you prepare for September — bringing together key dates, important information, and reassurance all in one place.

Our message is simple: you are not expected to know everything yet — that’s what transition is for.

Next Stop: #TeamKSA

Joining Kettering Science Academy means becoming part of a supportive, inclusive community where every student is known, valued and encouraged to be the best they can be. Over the coming months, we will help you get to know the school, the people in it, and what everyday life as a Year 7 looks like.

Transition is a journey, not a single day — and we will walk it with you, step by step.

Write to the Principal

Before you even arrive at KSA, we would love you to introduce yourself.

Our Principal, Mrs Giovanelli, enjoys hearing directly from our new students. Writing to her is a chance to share a little about who you are — what you enjoy, what you’re excited about, or anything you’d like her to know as you start this next chapter.

There are no right or wrong answers. Your message doesn’t need to be long — it just needs to be yours.

Send an e‑postcard to Mrs Giovanelli

The KSA Welcome Pack & Important Forms

In March, families will receive a Welcome Pack by email. This contains important information and online forms that help us prepare properly for your child’s start in September.

What do families need to do?

  • Read the information provided
  • Complete the online forms included
  • Submit everything by Thursday 26 March 2026

If you need support completing the forms, please get in touch — we are always happy to help. Email: KSAY7Transition@ketteringscienceacademy.org

What Transition Looks Like at KSA

Starting secondary school is a big step — and it’s completely normal to feel excited, nervous, or a mix of both.

At KSA:

  • Everyone in Year 7 is new — you won’t be the only one finding your way
  • Staff are always on hand to help you
  • You will be shown where to go and what to do
  • You are never expected to remember everything straight away

Transition is designed to build confidence gradually, so that by September you feel ready, supported, and settled.

Events & What to Expect

Primary School Visits (April–June)

KSA staff will visit primary schools to meet pupils, answer questions, and start building familiar relationships ahead of September.

Year 6 Disco Night – Thursday 4 June

A fun, relaxed opportunity for new starters to meet each other and begin forming friendships before secondary school begins.

SEN Factfinder Day – Friday 3 July (Invite Only)

A quieter, supportive transition opportunity for invited pupils who may benefit from additional familiarisation with the school environment.

Year 6 Transition Day – Monday 6 July

Pupils will spend the day at KSA, meet staff, take part in lessons, and experience a typical secondary school day.

Parent Information Evening – Monday 6 July

  • 4:30–5:30pm – SEN session (invite only)
  • 5:30–6:30pm – All other families

This evening provides key practical information to help families support their child’s transition.

Summer School – Wednesday 22 to Friday 24 July

Summer School helps students build confidence, practise routines, and feel comfortable in the school environment ahead of September.
