Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG)
Ambition for All – Preparing for the Future
At Kettering Science Academy, we believe that high‑quality careers education plays a vital role in helping students feel confident, motivated and well prepared for their future. Our Careers Department provides Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) that supports every student to make informed decisions about their next steps, whether that is further education, training, apprenticeships or employment.
Our careers programme follows the Gatsby Benchmarks for Good Career Guidance, a nationally recognised framework that ensures students receive consistent, high‑quality support throughout their time at school. This means that careers learning is carefully planned and clearly communicated, personalised to meet individual needs and built into the curriculum so students understand how their subjects link to future careers. Students are given access to accurate and up‑to‑date information about the world of work, including local and national labour market opportunities. We work closely with the South Midlands Careers Hub (SMCH) and the Careers and Enterprise Company in order to deliver this.
We provide meaningful opportunities for students to meet employers, learn about different industries and explore a wide range of pathways, including colleges, sixth forms, universities and apprenticeships. Where possible, students also benefit from experiences of the workplace, helping them to develop employability skills and a realistic understanding of working life. All students have access to impartial, one‑to‑one careers guidance from a qualified careers adviser to support them in making choices that are right for them.
We work closely with parents and carers and recognise the important role you play in supporting your child’s career decisions. By combining strong careers education in school with informed conversations at home, we aim to help every student develop the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to succeed in their future.

Our Careers Programme
Our careers education is delivered through Personal Development lessons, assemblies, visiting speakers, employer engagement, work experience opportunities, and 1:1 careers interviews with an impartial adviser.
Provision is tailored to suit each key stage:
-
Key Stage 3: Introduction to the world of work, self-awareness and decision-making to support GCSE option choices.
-
Key Stage 4: Focus on employability skills, work experience, and preparing for post-16 routes.
-
Key Stage 5: Individualised guidance for post-18 pathways, UCAS and apprenticeship applications, interview and CV preparation, and encounters with employers and universities.

Measuring the Impact of Our Careers Programme
We continually review and evaluate our CEIAG provision through:
-
Student, parent and staff surveys
-
Destination and NEET data for Year 11, 12 and 13 leavers
-
Compass+ benchmarking and Careers Adviser feedback
-
Evaluation of events and employer engagement
Findings are used to inform our annual improvement plan, ensuring our provision continues to meet the needs of all learners.
We are committed to ensuring that our careers education makes a real and positive difference to our students’ futures. The impact of our careers programme is measured in a number of ways to help us understand how well students are prepared for their next steps and to ensure our provision continues to improve.
We track student destinations after they leave school, including progression to sixth form, college, apprenticeships, university or employment (post 18). This helps us see whether students are moving into positive and suitable pathways and making informed choices. We also monitor engagement with careers activities, such as employer talks, careers events, workplace experiences, and oneâtoâone guidance appointments.
Student feedback plays an important role in measuring impact. We regularly gather students’ views on how confident they feel about their future, how well they understand their options and how helpful careers activities have been. Parental feedback is also valued and helps us strengthen communication and support at key decision points.
We work closely with employers, colleges, training providers, and universities and use their feedback to assess how well students are developing employability skills and understanding the world of work. Our careers programme is reviewed against the Gatsby Benchmarks for Good Career Guidance, ensuring it remains high quality, inclusive, and relevant.
By using a combination of destination data, student and parent feedback, and ongoing review, we ensure that our careers education effectively supports every student to take confident, wellâinformed steps towards a successful future.

Parent FAQs
What is careers education and why is it important?
Careers education helps students understand the wide range of options available to them and develop the skills and knowledge needed to make informed choices about their future. It supports motivation, confidence and successful transitions into further education, training, apprenticeships or employment.
How does the school ensure careers provision is high quality?
Our careers programme follows the Gatsby Benchmarks for Good Career Guidance, a national framework that sets out what effective careers education looks like. This ensures careers learning is structured, inclusive, personalised and consistently delivered across all year groups.
How is careers education delivered in school?
Careers learning is provided through a mix of curriculum lessons, assemblies, careers events, employer talks, college and university encounters, workplace experiences where possible and targeted support for key transition points. Subject teachers also highlight how learning links to future career pathways.
Will my child receive individual careers guidance?
Yes. All students have access to impartial one‑to‑one guidance from a qualified careers adviser in Year 10. This personalised support helps students explore their strengths, interests, and options and make informed decisions about post‑16, post‑18 and long‑term pathways.
How are different pathways covered (college, sixth form, university, apprenticeships)?
We ensure students learn about all available routes, including further education, sixth form, higher education, apprenticeships and employment. Students have opportunities to meet providers from a wide range of settings to help them understand what each pathway involves.
How does the school support students with different needs or aspirations?
Careers guidance is tailored to meet the needs of individual students, including those with SEND, those at risk of becoming NEET and high‑achieving students looking at competitive pathways. Additional support and targeted guidance are provided where needed.
How can parents support their child’s career development?
We encourage parents to talk with their child about their interests and ambitions, attend careers events where possible, and make use of information shared by the school. Careers decisions are most effective when school and families work together.
Who can I contact if I have questions about careers education?
If you would like more information or guidance, please contact Miss Jason on isabelle.jason@ketteringscienceacademy.org who will be happy to support you and your child.
