Inclusion

Every child known, safe and supported — wellbeing, safety and learning sit at the heart of inclusion.

At Kettering Science Academy, inclusion is a whole-school commitment. Grounded in the belief that “kids do well if they can” (Ross Greene), our aim is to create the conditions where every young person can succeed — emotionally, socially and academically. Wellbeing, safety and learning are seen as interconnected foundations for progress, and each child’s experience is shaped with these in mind.

Most needs are met through high-quality teaching and strong relationships in the classroom. Lessons are planned with accessibility in mind, using consistent routines and adaptive strategies to support focus, engagement and independence. The school environment is designed to help all students feel seen, stretched and supported in their learning.

Where additional support is needed, this is carefully considered and proportionate. This may include tailored approaches within lessons, support from a wider team of professionals, or adjustments to help students re-engage. Support is always designed with a clear purpose, and reviewed regularly to ensure it remains effective and appropriate.

Every student is supported by a network of adults. This begins with their form tutor and year team — trusted, daily points of contact who notice patterns, respond to concerns, and maintain continuity. They work closely with the Inclusion Team and SENCo to ensure that needs are identified early and that the right help is put in place. Families are welcomed as key partners in this process, with communication that is open, realistic and focused on shared goals.

Investment continues to be made in improving the quality of interactions across the school day — not only in response to difficulties, but as part of the everyday culture. Calm routines, clear boundaries and respectful communication help children feel safe and emotionally ready to learn.

Inclusion at KSA is ultimately about preparation for life beyond school.

The focus is not only on supporting students to succeed in the present, but also on helping them grow into confident, capable individuals ready for further education, employment or training — and for the wider world ahead.
